Health isn’t just about the absence of illness, but rather about well-rounded wellness. Mental and emotional health can have just as much of an impact on your body and life as physical health. That’s why it’s so important to take care of your whole self.

UniCare’s “Whole Health, Whole You” initiative is based around this idea; about caring for people in sickness and in health. That’s why UniCare is sponsoring this free event with Quinsigamond Community College, to bring the many benefits of yoga to the community.

Here are just some of the ways a yoga practice can improve the mind, body, and soul:

  • Strengthens muscles
  • Increases flexibility and balance
  • Improves respiration and blood flow
  • Focuses on breath
  • Encourages mindfulness
  • Reduces stress

About the Instructor

Kate teaches yoga, barre & yoga trapeze classes at her Worcester-based studio, Kula Yoga & Barre. In 2017 Kate opened her studio with the intension of creating a wellness community that’s inclusive to everyone as they are on the mat today. She chose the Sanskrit name “Kula,” because it means, “community of the heart." The name was perfect!

At her studio she teaches weekly classes, workshops- and this fall she will lead a Yoga Alliance approved 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training! She also has a certification class to become trained as Barre Teacher.

Kate’s yoga classes are vinyasa and hatha yoga inspired. Kate infuses guided awareness and centering throughout class. The mindful pace of class invites students to settle-in while holding postures. To breathe-in awareness and space throughout the body & mind, so complete release into peace is felt with the exhalation. She teaches for beginners and seasoned yogis alike by offering lots of modifications and options throughout class.
